Cheers to the weekend!

This weekend is packed. Tonight we have a grad party to attend and then the rest of the weekend we are mulching flower beds, putting our new patio set on the deck, installing a new dock, having friends over for a fire. Oh and I’m adding sipping on a blood orange Moscow mule to the list.

I first had this cocktail while out to dinner with our good friends. It was love after first sip and I vowed to recreate it.

Citrusy gingery and oh so refreshing. You’re going to love this one!

Blood Orange Moscow Mule ingredients

To Make This Blood Orange Moscow Mule You Will Need:

  • iceFill your mule mug up to the top to keep the drink cold and  help from being watered down when adding room temp liquids.
  • blood orange vodkaVodka is the liquor used in Moscow mules. I found this at my local grocery store.
  • blood orange juiceFreshly squeezed. This will add color, sweetness and enhance the blood orange flavor.
  • ginger beerAlso a standard mule ingredient. The flavor works wonderfully with the orange.

chilled mugs

I like to pop my mule mugs into the freezer for about 1 to 2 hours prior to making this cocktail.

add ice to mugs

Then fill the chilled mule up the top with ice. This will not only keep your drink cold, but when adding room temperature liquids it is less likely for the drink to become watered down. Less ice means less likely it will melt upon pouring.

blood orange vodka

Pour 2 ounces blood orange vodka over top of the ice.

blood orange juice

Then Pour in 4 ounces of freshly squeezed blood orange juice. Depending on how large and/or juicy the oranges are will depend on how many you will need. Typically 1 orange will yield anywhere between 3 to 5 tablespoons of juice.

adding ginger beer

Top off the cocktail with roughly 4 ounces of ginger beer.

So gorgeous!

Squeeze in a wedge of lime

Lastly, squeeze in the juice from 1 wedge of lime and serve.

Blood Orange Moscow Mule

I like to garnish with a sprig of rosemary and thinly sliced orange and lime wheels. This makes the drink pretty but is of course optional.

Blood Orange Moscow Mule

This cocktail is delicious refreshing and perfect for summer patio relaxing. Cheers!

As always, please drink responsibly.
